The dining table
The dining table is a piece of furniture of which the importance is not to be underestimated. After all, you will be spending some of your best times eating and chatting with your friends sitting around it, so you want to make sure it suits you. Having to deal with a circular room, it quickly became clear to me my dining table would have to be round. And I found all the inspiration I needed to chose one on Pinterest...
I quickly became obsessed with the tables and the chairs shown in the pictures above, displayed in fancy restaurants and hotel lobbies. After doing a little research, I discovered they were from a Danish brand called Gubi. They're all about combining past and present and their designs feature smooth curves and impeccable execution, which gives them an overall harmonious feel. Because of their superior quality, the products are rather pricey but I just couldn't get them out of my mind.
The story behind the Beetle Dining Chair by Gubi is rather interesting as its design is inspired by the anatomy, aesthetics and movement of a beetle. Once you know it, I found it to be clearly recognizable and it definitely adds an extra layer to the items. As for the Gubi 2.0 Dining Table, its design may not be as creative, but its clean lines and simple details make it absolutely timeless.
I found all these items on a Dutch website called Sterkonline.nl which specializes in Scandinavian design for its signature quality and durability. The thing about Scandinavian design is that it remains modern over time, so you can be assured it is worth the investment, as it will keep its appeal year after year. I did however have to give up the idea of acquiring the Beetle Dining Chairs in velvet, as their prices are for a different kind of breed than I belong to (hum hum). Luckily they launched a version in polypropylene plastic which makes them approachable for a wider audience. And I did get to buy a velvet couch to satisfy my soft material cravings, but more about that another time...
