I have to admit, my life can be quite hectic at times. Now don't get me wrong: I want it that way and I love it! But it does emphasize my need for a bed that signals nothing but serenity and calm. I achieved this through a minimal, shabby chic design and luxurious, white sheets.
When I started looking for pallets as structure for my bed, everybody kept telling me it was so easy to find. Just pick some up on the side of the street or in the back of a supermarket. Yes, except I had no interest in dirty, unmatched ones. So I pursued my search until I found a logistics company that would sell me new ones: logistiekdirect.be. There was a little drama involved at the moment of delivery, but other than that I'm happy I found them.
I'm a big fan of the end result because of the contrast between the rawness of the pallets and the refinement of the ceiling. The fact that the bed is so close to the ground makes the ceiling seem even higher. And again, because it is so minimal, the room immediately puts my mind at ease, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Now about the sheets: Being all grown up and everything, I wanted to invest in actual good sheets for once. I was very happy to discover the brand Kalani because not only do they provide excellent quality for a decent price, they also happen to be Belgian (and I'm all about Belgium)! They have a fair trade commitment, meaning they pay a fair price to farmers for the cotton, and their cotton is 100% biologic, meaning no chemical products and no pollution linked to its production.
Beyond that, the feeling of crawling into these sheets is heaven! With their white color and incredible softness, I feel like I'm going to bed in a hotel every night.
