Dreaming of South Africa

Belgium and South Africa. At first you might think these two countries have nothing in common visually, yet the challenge #beinsouthafrica wants you to prove otherwise. Using your creativity, this Instagram challenge will have you share a picture that looks as if it was taken in South Africa when actually you never left Belgian territory. It’s not only fun to do, the winner also gets a nice price!

Following the footsteps of Bauhaus in Germany

You’ve probably already encountered the term Bauhaus before and you have a vague idea it has something to do with design but that’s about it. I know it was the case for me. However, after my recent trip to Germany, I can now say the extensive concept of Bauhaus, a design movement that marked a major turn in 20th century modernism, has little secrets left for me. A true part of the German DNA, Bauhaus celebrates its 100 years of existence in 2019, meaning the reasons to head to Germany are even more numerous, with lots of happenings on top of the country’s already very rich cultural offer.

A night out in Antwerp with DIGEL move

This year has already been packed with amazing projects thanks to my blog. My recent collaboration with the menswear label DIGEL move is just one of those. As part of their Fall/Winter 2018 campaign #movetoremember, they turned to five alternative fashion capitals, among which Antwerp. In each city, they selected a variety of male influencers for a night out in town, discovering their favorite, secret locations. As newly Antwerp resident, I was lucky enough to be selected for the Belgian campaign. And it's with much pleasure that I share our night with you guys!

The curtains

I like to think that, in some aspects, I'm an original. But for others, I'm very much drawn to classics. In the same way that I'm sensitive to the classical appeal of a white shirt, I consider curtains to be the most beautiful when white and flowy. High quality and impeccable finish are therefore crucial and I could count on Heytens to help me out with that!

The wardrobe

In terms of investments, I'm very much like Carrie Bradshaw: "I like my money right where I can see it, hanging in my closet". You can take that quite literally, as I took advantage of my big, open bedroom to store and display all my fashion acquired over the years.

The dining table

The dining table is a piece of furniture of which the importance is not to be underestimated. After all, you will be spending some of your best times eating and chatting with your friends sitting around it, so you want to make sure it suits you. Having to deal with a circular room, it quickly became clear to me my dining table would have to be round. And I found all the inspiration I needed to chose one on Pinterest...

The bed

I have to admit, my life can be quite hectic at times. Now don't get me wrong: I want it that way and I love it! But it does emphasize my need for a bed that signals nothing but serenity and calm. I achieved this through a minimal, shabby chic design and luxurious, white sheets.

New beginnings

A new section sees the day on Gerrit and the City under the name 'Lifestyle'. This will be a platform for me to talk about things that are dear to me other than national and international travel, for instance decoration! Those of you who follow me on Instagram know it already: I've bought my very own apartment in 2017. This blog post will be a digression from what you usually get to read over here, as I'll be sharing the very personal journey that lead me to that big step forward in life.
