A weekend in Rotterdam • Part two

The main reason why we picked citizenM to stay in Rotterdam was its convenient location in the city center. But it turned out that's not its only asset! You now know Rotterdam is all about modern architecture and citizenM fits perfectly into that. You can check-in by yourself and in your room you get to pilot everything with an iPad (from temperature, to lighting, to music). I advice you pick a room with view on the harbor on the upper level. You'll see the room is small but very cosy! And you get all of this for a decent price.

A weekend in Rotterdam • Part one

Rotterdam is best known for its characteristic skyline and innovative architecture which gave the city its nickname 'Manhattan aan de Maas'. The reason why the city has such a modern appearance is because it was largely bombed during World War II and it was decided to rebuild the city according to contemporary architecture standards afterwards. As a result, people either hate it or love it. Thanks to its many, many hotspots, I quickly became a Rotterdam fan and I gladly share my tips with you for a full weekend of discoveries!

Dublin Citytrip

Since I don't drink beer, I thought Dublin, the city famous for its pubs, had nothing to offer for me. But boy was I wrong! I quickly discovered the city has many spots to please hipsters, countless colorful facades and a surprisingly urban vibe. It is confusing to see people drive on the left, but other than that Dublin is very easy to approach: They have the euro, you don't need to worry about public transport since distances are short and the general atmosphere is laid-back. So grab your raincoat and off we go!

A day at Efteling

Once upon a time, in a Kingdom not so far away, there was a place called Efteling in which fairy tales came to life... At first this theme park might come across as reserved for children, but with its restaurants, shops and roller coasters it has something for people of all ages. And besides, don't we all want to go back to the stories of our childhood every once in a while? Open 365 days a year, Efteling makes for a magical getaway!

A day in Córdoba

In my previous post I was telling you about the perfect 3-day city trip in Seville. But while you're there, why not discover Córdoba, which I experienced as the Spanish version of Disney's Agrabah! Today many parts of it are in ruin, but in the Middle Ages this was one of the greatest cities in the world. The city was ruled by several cultures over the years and had its glory days under the Islamic rule. This is when its main attraction was built: the Mezquita. Córdoba is less touristy than Seville or Granada and it is relatively small, which makes it a perfect day trip destination.

Seville Citytrip

When we booked our trip to Seville a couple of months ago, I didn't know what to expect. But boy did I fall in love with this city! The architecture and the streets are so beautiful I almost overheated my camera. The capital of Andalusia has one of the largest historical centers in Europe and is very intriguing due to the different populations that left their mark on the city, especially the Moor, which explains the "One Thousand and One Nights" feel of certain parts of it. You can easily do everything by foot and even in November the weather is great. And then there is the tapas! What more could you ask for?

Milan Citytrip

Milan is very well known for its Fashion Week, as it is one of the fashion capitals next to New-York, London and Paris. But there's more to Milan than just fashion. Some say Milan doesn't offer the real Italian experience, but as a city person I had a blast during my 3-day trip in July. Through the food and the language, I enjoyed the Italian passion to the fullest. And above that, the city actually offers some very beautiful sights. I hope you enjoy this city guide punctuated by Prada, Gucci, etcetera!

A day in Paris • Montmartre

When in Paris, Montmartre is a good place to go to on Sunday. The little village in the North of the city is a place like no other. Its picturesque streets are the perfect backdrop to get lost in. Don't worry, looking up you'll always manage to find your way back. Just look for the top of the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur, the symbol of Montmartre. It is also an area that is filled with romance, making it a perfect destination for lovers.

A day in Paris • Along the Seine

For me, Paris has always been magical. Because the City of Light has been featured in countless movies I've seen, I've been dreaming about it for a long time. In the last five years, I've been going there regularly and I'm pleasantly surprised the magic still operates. With its beautiful architecture, countless terraces and monuments, and of course, the Seine. A walk around the city's river is almost mandatory when I'm there. It has something immensely romantic and you come accross some of the city's greatest landmarks. Follow me!

Down on the West Coast • Part two

The first part of the trip was rather intense, moving from one place to another every day over large distances. The second part of the trip was more laid-back and we enjoyed Californian city life to the fullest. We went to Western USA during the second half of April and it turned out to be the perfect period for us. Not only because it is still the low season, meaning less people and lower accommodation prices, but also because the spring temperatures were a real delight, nor too warm, nor too cold.

Down on the West Coast • Part one

I've been a fan of Lana Del Rey for years. I feel close not only to her music, but also to her unique aesthetic, best shown in clips such as "Ride" and "West Coast". The freedom of the open road, Los Angeles, palm trees, the coast... So many things I used to fantasize about. Which is why this vacation across Western USA together with my boyfriend felt like a dream come true. Over two weeks, we drove more than 4500 km, stayed at charming Airbnb's and saw the most amazing and diverse landscapes.
